First Mobile Engineer

// for startups launching their mobile app

Your first mobile engineer

Launching your iOS & Android app? A senior mobile engineer with 10 years of experience (TF1, PMU, Zeturf) designs the architecture, builds in React Native, ships to the stores and lays the foundations your future team will inherit. Full remote.

// the problem

You only get one shot at your first app

Hiring is slow and risky

Six months to hire a mobile lead, with no guarantee on skill level. Meanwhile, your app doesn't exist and your competitors are shipping.

Agencies leave with the knowledge

The agency delivers and moves on: nobody inside your company knows the code your product runs on, and every change becomes a new quote.

Foundation mistakes are expensive

Wrong stack, fragile architecture, no CI/CD: the technical debt of a first app is paid back over years.

// what I deliver

From zero to the stores, then to the team

Architecture & foundations

Stack choice (React Native, native where needed), architecture, Bitrise or GitLab CI/CD, dev, staging and production environments.

iOS & Android development

React Native, with native Kotlin/Swift bridges when a feature requires it. The same code standard as at TF1, PMU and Zeturf.

App Store & Google Play release

Developer accounts, Apple review, store listings, TestFlight, automated releases. Zero administrative friction on your side.

Hiring your team

When the app takes off: scorecards, technical interviews, onboarding. I hire and train the people who will take over.

// proof

Mobile apps in production, not slides

  • React Native Tech Lead at TF1: connected-TV app, squad of 4 developers
  • Mobile lead at PMU: two betting apps in production, E2E tests, GitLab CI/CD
  • Zeturf: takeover and consolidation of a production React Native betting app
  • PSA / Free2move: connected mobility app (parking, EV charging, tolls)
  • Apps published on the App Store and Google Play since 2017

// frequently asked questions

First mobile engineer: your questions

What is a first mobile engineer?

The first mobile engineer of a company: the person who picks the stack, designs the architecture, builds the first version of the app and sets the standards (tests, CI/CD, releases) every future hire will inherit. A founding role, too risky for a junior profile.

React Native or native (Swift/Kotlin) for a first app?

React Native in 90% of cases: one codebase for iOS and Android, time-to-market cut in half and a much larger hiring pool. I build native Kotlin/Swift modules when a feature requires it, as done at PMU and TF1.

How much does mobile app development cost?

A well-scoped mobile MVP costs €7,000 to €15,000 as a fixed-price project. For ongoing support (first mobile engineer), budget €4,000 to €8,000 per month depending on pace. The online calculator gives you an estimate in 2 minutes.

How long until the app is on the App Store and Google Play?

Expect 4 to 8 weeks from kick-off to the first public version: 2 to 4 weeks building the MVP, one week of polish and TestFlight, then Apple review (1 to 3 days). Developer accounts can be created on day one.

Do you work fully remote?

Yes, that is my default mode, including with TF1 and PMU: asynchronous communication, weekly video demos, code visible continuously. A 3-4 hour timezone difference is not a problem.

Can you take over an existing mobile app?

Yes. Audit of the code, crashes and release pipeline, then consolidation: exactly the work done at Zeturf on a production betting app. A free 30-minute audit gives you an honest picture of your app's real state.
